Bend, Oregon attracts highly creative people – people who have a purpose and a passion for what they do, as well as the desire to manifest their dreams. And they make it happen here in the High Desert.
Below are five Made in Bend, Oregon businesses. Though just a few of the many inspiring businesses here in Bend, these entrepreneurs are worthy of mention.
Proudly Made in Bend, Oregon
Breedlove Guitars – Site, sound, touch … Breedlove Guitars are a thing of beauty. Founders Larry Breedlove and Steve Henderson had a dream to craft lightweight, responsive, and impeccably crafted guitars featuring innovative designs, unique materials, and distinctive aesthetics. They succeeded. In Larry and Steve 1992 officially launched the company with three body shapes and five guitar models. Today, Larry’s brother Kim – a prolific luthier with two decades of experience building, repairing, and adding inlays to guitars, mandolins, dulcimers, and banjos – runs the business with entrepreneur Tom Bedell.
But make no mistake – our world-class luthiers don’t just build instruments, they design distinctively crafted sound.
Sara Bella Upcycled – The next time you’re in the NorthWest Crossing neighborhood, be sure to visit Sara Bella Upcycled. Owner Sara Bella was inspired by her grandmother who, in addition to being a holocaust survivor, was a haute couture seamstress. In 2010, Sara Bella* Upcycled was formed to create hand-crafted environmentally friendly handbags, accessories, clothing and art. All of Sara Bella’s products are made of 95% recycled plastic bags and banners that would otherwise have been tossed into a landfill. And her designs are very cool!
We make art for change and to educate, reusing hundreds of bags daily, saving them from the landfill.
Spindrift Dog Gear – Bend + Dogs = Love. We love our canines and take them with us everywhere we go … hiking, skiing, canoeing, camping, shopping, dining. So it’s no surprise that dog-loving entrepreneur Mike McDowell started a business making gear for his Husky mix, Max. Mike began by designing skijoring equipment, which lead to the “Cozy” line of leashes, harnesses, collars, and the ever-popular Spindrifter. Spindrift products are found at many businesses, including Bend Pet Express.
Every day, our own dogs put Spindrift gear to the test by playing in the mountains, the rivers and the desert surrounding Bend, Oregon. We hope that you and your pup will enjoy our products as much as we do and remember to Play Every Day!
DANI Naturals – DANI Natural bath and body products can be found in fine hotels, gourmet food shops, spas, gift and specialty stores from coast to coast. True to Central Oregonian’s love of nature, Bend resident Danielle Easly Nye launched her all-natural DANI body care products in 1996. Today, the business not only remains in Central Oregon, it continues to create products using the highest quality, most natural ingredients that Nature provides.
Our motto: Blend natural elements that stimulate our senses. Create products that invigorate, soothe, nourish the mind and body. Provide positive, meaningful experiences that nurture the soul. Build community through connections local and worldwide. Live well everyday.
Nashelle Jewelry – Nashelle jewelry has been worn by celebrities and featured in national magazines for years. While the company has gained national exposure, founder Heather Straw has remained true to her mission: to give a portion of sales to organizations supporting children and families. Heather’s retail store is located in the Old Mill. Do good and look good!
It is Nashelle’s belief that if we start locally, it can extend globally. By ‘paying it forward’ we hope to encourage others to give what they can to their own communities, and continue a spirit that is generous in love in the global community that we all share.
